The U.S. SailGP Team clinched P4 at the first ENEL Rio Sail Grand Prix to strengthen their grip on 3rd in the 2026 Rolex SailGP Championship.
Day 2 in Rio de Janeiro got underway with the U.S. SailGP Team in a strong position, sitting second overall in the event standings following a strong showing on Saturday.
But it was the BONDS Flying Roos that dominated, winning all three fleet races and the event final – beating first-time finalists Artemis and Los Gallos to take the win.
Winds were slightly higher for Sunday’s races, with boats running the 27.5m wing, high-speed rudders and light air foils. The teams were made up of five crew members, with only strategist Andrew Campbell off the boat for the U.S. SailGP Team.

Race 5 got underway with a fantastic start for the BONDS Flying Roos, who surged to an early lead. The U.S. SailGP Team ran in the midpack for much of the race, jostling with Los Gallos and ROCKWOOL Denmark.
Throughout the race, nobody was able to challenge the Aussie squad, who won ahead of Red Bull Italy and Artemis. The U.S. SailGP Team came home in P5, dropping to third in the overall event standings.
Race 6 began with a penalty for Emirates GBR, who otherwise endured a weekend to forget, and the BONDS Flying Roos. The U.S. SailGP Team started strongly before unpredictable conditions saw almost the whole fleet drop off the foils.

As the race approached the halfway mark, the Crew were running well in P3 before experiencing a pocket of low winds that saw them lose speed and drop down to P7. A congested second half of the race was marked by plenty of position changes, with the U.S. ultimately coming home in P7. The Australians took home another decisive win.
Race 7 was defined by the U.S. SailGP Team’s battle for a Final spot with Los Gallos, although it began with a disqualification for DS Automobiles France as they failed to keep clear of Germany Deutsche Bank.
Although the Crew had the points advantage over the Spanish squad for much of the race, Taylor Canfield found himself in heavy traffic as the race entered leg 4.
This cleared the way for Los Gallos to surge up to P3, securing their spot in the final along with the BONDS Flying Roos, who eased to yet another win, and Artemis. The U.S. SailGP Team’s weekend ended in a strong P4, adding seven points to their Championship total.
The final was defined by a penalty for Artemis for failing to give mark room to Los Gallos, and by yet another dominant performance by the BONDS Flying Roos secured a clean sweep of race wins on a perfect Sunday – capped with the event win.
Next stop for the Rolex SailGP Championship is Bermuda on May 9 and 10.
