Data Dive: Cádiz

Go deeper and delve into numbers from the Spain Sail Grand Prix…
Published 10/7/2025
A weekend of thrills and spills in Cádiz ended with Emirates GBR taking home their third event win of the season – now let Data Dive take you deeper.
For the U.S. SailGP Team, it was another building block as Taylor Canfield’s Crew went 3-12-11-6-8-5-4 to finish 8th overall. Here's what the leaderboard doesn't tell you about the DP World Spain Sail Grand Prix…
Day 1
Winners in Geneva, the Germany SailGP Team presented by Deutsche Bank took that form with them into Cádiz.
No one was better out of the start box than Erik Heil’s team who had an average boat speed of 44.1 km/hr at the start line. The Germans were one of just two teams - along with France - to take an average of 0 seconds to cross the start line and their mean position at Mark One was 2.2 – better than anyone else.
ROCKWOOL Denmark recorded the top speed on Day 1 of the DP World Spain Sail Grand Prix
The U.S. SailGP Team put an emphasis on improved starts across the weekend and saw some reward for their endeavors. A mean distance of 12m to the start line was bettered only by ROCKWOOL Denmark (3m) on Day 1, while a mean position of 6.2 at M1 was fifth best in the fleet.
ROCKWOOL Denmark enjoyed themselves on Saturday, going 8-1-2-1, and no one could top their maximum boat speed of 61.8 km/hr on Saturday. It was Mubadala Brazil, though, who recorded the highest average speed at 37 km/hr - just ahead of Emirates GBR (36.2 km/hr) and Denmark (35.2 km/hr).
Both the Brazilians and Great Britain enjoyed good flight throughout the day, too. Martine Grael’s team boasted the highest average right height (828mm) with Britain 2nd on 803mm. Those two switched when it came to total flight time: Emirates GBR hitting 81% while Mubadala Brazil managed 79%.
It was Dylan Fletcher’s British crew that managed the fewest maneuvers, too – just 32. Denmark were next best with 33, as the Swiss recorded 34.
Day 2
Super Sunday was a showcase in the numbers for Mubadala Brazil, even if the leaderboard didn’t capture it all.
Martine Grael and co. were stat leaders in several metrics, including: mean boat speed (40.7 km/hr), average ride height (947mm) and percentage of time flying (90%). In all three areas, the South Americans just beat out event winners Emirates GBR whose own results were: 39.2 km/hr, 876mm and 87%.
Los Gallo completed the fewewest maneuvers on Day 2 of the DP World Spain Sail Grand Prix
No one completed fewer maneuvers than hosts Los Gallos (25), though the U.S. SailGP Team and BONDS Flying Roos (26) were not far behind.
Finalists New Zealand were, however, among the best starters on Day 2. An average boat speed at the start of 38.7 km/hr was just ahead of the Roos (36.1 km/hr), while a mean distance of 12m to the start line was second only to France (6m). Nobody had a better mean position at M1 than the Black Foils’ 2.8 en route to the Final.
