Driver Taylor Canfield says the U.S. SailGP Team is excited for the future, ahead of the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Sail Grand Prix Grand Final.
This weekend’s event brings the 2025 SailGP Season to a close – but there will be just 48 days from that point until the 2026 Season starts in Perth on January 17.
Taylor said: “It’s been a bumpy season and I could say I’m ready for it to be over and for a fresh start next season, but I’m also excited for this race here in Abu Dhabi.
“We had a great event here last time, finishing on the podium, and also over in a fellow city, Dubai – we had a great event there. So we have some good skills and we’ve had some great results over here, and we’re just looking to expand and continue to grow our team.
U.S. SailGP Team driver Taylor Canfield says the team is excited for what's the come as the season approaches its climax
“We’re excited for what’s to come in the next season ahead.”
A number of teams across the league are making roster changes ahead of next season. The U.S. SailGP Team yesterday (Wednesday) announced Harry Melges IV had signed with the team.
Asked what Harry - US Rolex Yachtsman of the Year in 2021 - would bring to the squad, Taylor said: “We’re super excited to include Harry Melges on the roster. He’s a great, incredible sailor. Also American. And, you know, we’re really proud of that - developing the next generations of American talent. He’s the top guy.
“So we’re looking to continue to grow not only our team now, but develop future prospects to be on the roster. Overall, we’re proud to represent our country as an all-American team – I think one of the only teams in the league.
“I think that, looking at New Zealand and what they’ve done with their country and getting an entire country behind them, that’s our goal in the U.S.”
Looking ahead to the final event of the season, Taylor added: “We’re excited to just go out and have a good event. We feel like we’ve made some great steps this season.
“We’ve had some great races in recent events, and we’ve got to go out there and put a full event together. If we come away from this event feeling that way, then we’re going to be strong in the next season.”
