5 Things You Missed In Cádiz

It was all happening in Spain this weekend – here’s everything you might have missed…
Published 10/8/2025
There’s only one event left in Season 5 of SailGP, after the DP World Spain Sail Grand Prix concluded in Cádiz on Sunday with Emirates GBR taking home the win.
After three unforgettable events in four weeks, it all comes down to the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Sail Grand Prix on November 29-30. But before that, we recap the weekend with 5 things you might have missed…
Emirates GBR makes it a hat-trick
Emirates GBR celebrates winning the DP World Spain Sail Grand Prix
Inclement weather limited Emirates GBR celebrations in Saint-Tropez last month as Day 2 was canceled. But they were able to truly savor this victory – their third of the season.
The Brits went 1-5-5-2-5-4-6 to secure their Final place and were the comeback kids after being penalized in the start box for straying out of bounds. But that 20m setback did not deter the British crew, who dove inside at the final gate, overtaking New Zealand to seal the win.
In doing so, Great Britain becomes the first nation in Season 5 to pick up three event wins – moving them ahead of the Black Foils once more.
U.S. SailGP Team records 2nd-best points haul of Season 5
The 29 points accrued in Cádiz, via finishes of 3-12-11-6-8–5-4, eclipse the U.S. SailGP Team’s next-best return of the season – the 26 points picked up in Los Angeles in March.
CEO, Co-Owner and strategist Mike Buckley said: “We leave here with a P8 which means, again, we’re leaving with points and more consistency. Progress at this level takes time, but I’m really proud of the work everyone’s been putting in off the water – it’s showing on the race course.
“There’s still a big opportunity to improve our starts and we’re certainly going to work to be better in Abu Dhabi. We’ve got six weeks until the final race of the season and we won’t take our foot off the gas.”
Back-to-back Final appearances for Germany
Germany continued its impressive recent form in Cádiz
The Germany SailGP Team presented by Deutsche Bank have become dark horses during the European tour and will surely be ones to watch next season.
Erik Heil’s crew went 4-4-3-12-4-2-5 to qualify for their second straight Final in Cádiz. The margins once you reach that shoot-out are tighter than ever, but a 3rd-place finish is certainly not to be sniffed at.
The German team has collected 25 points in their last three events. Without a 12-point penalty in Sydney, they’d be in 7th!
Brazil claims second race win of the season
Brazil picked up its second-ever race win in Cádiz
Martine Grael and Mubadala Brazil finished the Spain Sail Grand Prix on a high, winning Race 7 to clinch their second-ever race victory in SailGP.
The South Americans claimed their historic first win at the Mubadala New York Sail Grand Prix at the start of June and have laying down the building blocks since.
Brazil also showed up well in the data - particularly on Day 2 - where they recorded the highest mean boat speed (40.7 km/hr), average ride height (947mm) and percentage of time flying (90%). In all three areas, the South Americans just beat out event winners Emirates GBR.
You can take a closer look at their numbers in our Data Dive round-up.
All eyes on Abu Dhabi
So it all comes down to this.
Just five points separate current leaders Emirates GBR and the BONDS Flying Roos in 3rd. Tom Slingsby’s team has a four-point advantage over reigning Champions Los Gallos in 4th place.
France are now mathematically out of the running, 19 points back with a maximum of 10 points to play for in Abu Dhabi next month.
All of which means we’ve got a 50/50 chance of ushering in a new era with a first-time winner in either Britain, or New Zealand. The Roos won the first three seasons of SailGP before Spain broke their stronghold in Season 4.
Remember, the top three teams after the seven fleet races in Abu Dhabi will contest a winner-takes-all Grand Final with a prize of $2million up for grabs – we can’t wait
