U.S. SAILGP TEAM WINS SYDNEY SAIL GRAND PRIX

U.S. SailGP Team secures first event victory of the 2026 SailGP Season
Published 03/1/2026
The U.S. SailGP Team has won the KPMG Sydney Sail Grand Prix - securing its first victory under the current ownership.
Taylor Canfield and the Crew were the Rolex Sprint Leader in the Final and held off Emirates GBR from there on out to clinch an unforgettable win Down Under – their first since winning in Cádiz during the 2023 Season.
Qualifying for the Final by going 3-1-6 on Super Sunday, the U.S. SailGP Team got up and foiling approaching Mark One in the Final and never looked back after overtaking reigning Champion Emirates GBR.
KPMG Sydney Sail Grand Prix Standings:
That lack of wind was evident in the start box with the 11 teams jostling for the best position at the start line in Race 5. The BONDS Flying Roos were hit with a penalty on Red Bull Italy, who joined Switzerland, ROCKWOOL Denmark and Los Gallos in the race to M1.
Lighter conditions on Day 2 meant the recently introduced 27.5m wing took over from the 24m wing overnight, while the light-air T-foils and rudders remained in place.

With speeds of little more than 10 km/hr on the drag, Los Gallos owned the mark. But it was Dylan Fletcher and the Brits who edged them out to take 10 points, followed home by Diego Botín’s crew. Canfield and the U.S. SailGP Team picked up a big eight points by taking P3 after diving inside at Gate 2.
The Crew built on that result in spectacular fashion in the day’s second race, making a perfect start in the middle of the line to win the drag race to M1. Canfield and co. held off Germany SailGP Team presented by Deutsche Bank to take the win.

Having finished Race 6 in P3, the Danes made a flying start in the weekend’s final fleet race and got up and foiling out of Mark 1. With conditions hugely improved, Nicolai Sehested made light work of the competition and crossed the line in a flash.
Red Bull Italy came home in 2nd, followed by NorthStar Canada. That meant a P6 for the U.S. SailGP Team was enough to clinch a first Final appearance since Dubai in 2024, 463 days ago.
The U.S. SailGP Team and GBR both started well in the centre of the line and it was the U.S. SailGP Team that were Emirates Sprint Leaders at M1. From there, they built on the lead and crossed with an advantage of around 200m over the Brits to secure a memorable win.
Victory in Sydney lifts the U.S. SailGP Team to 3rd in the 2026 Rolex SailGP Championship after three events. The season resumes with the maiden ENEL Rio Sail Grand Prix on April 11-12.
