With the fleet utilizing 18m wings, as well as high-speed rudders and foils, the chances of another record being set looked good. In the event, Spain came closest by recording the weekend’s top speed at 99.9 km/hr, agonizingly short of hitting 100!
The highest average speed during Friday belonged to Emirates GBR and Mubadala Brazil, tied at 62 km/hr. At 61 km/hr, Peter Burling and the Black Foils were not far behind.

Having to perform the fewest maneuvers is key to securing victory and Red Bull Italy - winners of their first ever fleet race on the day - achieved that with incredible efficiency. Ruggero Tita’s crew managed just 23 in total (14 tacks, 9 jibes), including just seven during that success in Race 3.
Emirates GBR really came up clutch when it mattered, saving their best finish for last. Their win in Race 4 came with the quickest time of the day (00:08:05) and saw Fletcher and co. sail the shortest distance 8,659m. In doing so, they clinched the race and event win!
