SailGP opened its first centralized first long-term training center in Pensacola, Florida, today, helping transform the championship into a year-round proposition.
From October 19, the state-of-the-art facility will operate as a year-round training hub for the 13 international teams, designed to help accelerate the development of athletes and strengthen competition in SailGP.
Andrew Thompson, SailGP Managing Director, said: “The SailGP Training Base is more
than a facility – it is the infrastructure that enables the next phase of our growth. As a year-round high-performance hub, the training base allows our teams to invest in athlete development and progression, ultimately driving the long-term growth of our sport.
“Pensacola offers consistent conditions and a world-class setup that will allow our teams to test, train and innovate continuously to ensure the racing on the water remains the most exciting in the world.”
All teams will have equal access to reserve training blocks outside of race weekends with multiple teams able to train simultaneously. Centralized on-water and shore support is on hand, including technical specialists and advanced safety resources.
The first 10 sessions each team utilizes will sit outside the $10million annual cost cap.
