Foiling Forecast: New York

All the key info about the weather in the Big Apple for this weekend’s Mubadala New York Grand Prix…
Published 06/6/2025
Conditions are expected to be warm and dry for the Mubadala New York Sail Grand Prix as the SailGP season re-starts in the Big Apple.
There will be intervals of clouds and sunshine on Saturday, June 7 and low clouds, followed – all being well – by some sun on Sunday, June 8.
Temperatures on Saturday look set to be between 67-79F / 20-26c with a light breeze from the south hitting approximately 11 mph. Rain showers are anticipated in the morning with thunderstorms potentially arriving later in the day.
It could get a touch warmer on the Sunday with an anticipated high of 82F (28c) and a low of 66F (19c). Again, the wind is expected to be light and from the south, reaching just 11 mph again.
Cloudy conditions are currently predicted with a chance of showers throughout the afternoon.
Best of all, after damp conditions on the West Coast earlier in the season: no rain is anticipated on either day in New York.
CEO and strategist Mike Buckley says the weather conditions in New York should lead to an interesting spectacle on the water: “In pure sailing terms, one of the things that makes New York unique as a race venue is the conditions. If the sea breeze fills in, there’s no better venue in the world – it’s a spectacular racecourse.
“But it can also be tricky with light wind and strong currents. It can go either way: incredible or incredibly challenging. Regardless, it’ll be exciting.”
