We arrived in Portsmouth on Thursday ahead of the Emirates Great Britain Sail Grand Prix, ready to go and looking forward to putting more points on the board.Â
For me, it's been a bit of a world tour these last three weeks. I’ve spent about ten days in London, off and on, with two quick trips back to New York to see the iconic Jay-Z perform at Yankee Stadium with my friends at Roc Nation and an incredible The Athletic World Cup dinner. From there, I jumped on another plane to Vegas for UFC.
I’m a huge sports fan and I always come away from these events inspired. When you see what the best sports and entertainment properties in the world are building, you can’t help but think about what we can learn from them, where SailGP can go and how we continue competing for eyeballs on the world stage.
Now the focus shifts entirely to racing. Unfortunately, we're heading into the weekend without our grinder Peter Kinney.
PK sustained an upper-body injury last week, so we made the difficult decision for him to stay home and focus on his recovery. It's a long season and we need PK at 100%.
He's really emerged this year as one of our strongest leaders, so that's a tough void to fill. But that’s also why you build depth across a team. Everyone is ready to step in and do their job, and I feel like we'll be ready to go come race time.
The Solent is always shifty and unpredictable, but we’ve been working hard to make sure we’re prepared for whatever comes our way. It looks like it’s going to be a fast race track, which we all love and so do the fans. We’ve got an opportunity to build on the momentum we’ve created this season, put more points on the board and kick off the European leg on a strong note.
