Grinder Anna Weis says racing in New York City is ‘like a second home’ to the U.S. SailGP Team, with several team members living in the city or close by.
Speaking at Thursday’s press conference ahead of the Mubadala New York Sail Grand Prix, Anna discussed a third straight home event for the team, following races in Los Angeles and San Francisco in March.
She said: “I think it’s really special to be here, NYC is one of the most iconic cities in the world, it feels almost like a second home – we have a lot of team members who live here so it’s very special.”
It has been a long time without being on the water for the entire fleet, thanks to the cancelation of the inaugural Rio Grand Prix for safety upgrades. But Anna says the U.S. SailGP Team has utilized that time to iron out any issues.
“After San Francisco, we took a hard look at some weaknesses within our team and we spent two months looking really hard behind the scenes, the data and things we can improve when we get back on the water,” Anna explained.
“We announced Amazon as a new partner. We're really excited to have them on board, we have incredible partners, the future is bright and we’re so grateful to have such amazing people behind us.
“The city is so energetic and lively and we’re so excited to have all those people behind us.”
She added: “The city is just so welcoming to everybody with so much diversity and energy and the race in front of the New York City skyline is going to be so amazing. It’s such a special place to be racing.”
