Published 12/12/2025
More than 200 million SailGP fans tuned in throughout the 2025 Season, twice breaking the record viewing figure for an event.
A total of 215 million fans watched across the globe throughout the season’s 12 events at an average of 18 million viewers an event.
The broadcast record was first broken at the KPMG Sydney Sail Grand Prix in February at 21.1 million. In October, 23 million caught the DP World Spain Sail Grand Prix in Cádiz.
In the US, 3.47 million tuned in to watch the Race To Abu Dhabi on CBS, in doing so breaking a long-standing US record for the most viewers for a linear sailing event, set by the America’s Cup in 1992.
More than 112,00 ticketed spectators attended events through the season with 25,000 in Auckland, 20,00 in Portsmouth and more than 10,000 turning out in New York City – making it the most well-attended event in US waters ever.
Reflecting on the 2025 Season, Andrew Thompson, SailGP Managing Director, said, “The 2025 Season has reinforced SailGP’s position as a global leader in sport and entertainment, with record audiences and world-class racing bringing our championship to new heights.”
Thompson continued: “In just five seasons, we’ve exceeded all the initial major targets set in 2019 – doubling the number of teams and events, while increasing annual audience and revenue by 12x and 20x, respectively, since Season 1.”
