REPORT: Emirates GBR Crowned 2025 SailGP Champions

A dramatic final day in Abu Dhabi ended with first-time SailGP winner!
Published 11/30/2025
Emirates GBR has become just the third winner of SailGP after clinching victory in the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Sail Grand Prix Grand Final, presented by Abu Dhabi Sports Council.
Dylan Fletcher’s crew saw off three-time winner the BONDS Flying Roos and New Zealand Black Foils in a thrilling Grand Final that saw each team lead at least once.
There was good news before racing began on Sunday with windier conditions than on Day 1. The only change to Saturday’s configuration was in the crew, with four athletes rather than three available to the teams.
Sunday started with drama in a smaller than usual start box as the BONDS Flying Roos were hit with a boundary penalty. However, driven by Tom Slingsby, the Aussies progressed nicely through the fleet and eventually took 6th at the final mark rounding, slingshotting around Grand Final rivals and reigning Champions Los Gallos.
Emirates GBR all but secured their Grand Final berth with the win, overtaking NorthStar Canada (2nd) who had been the M1 leaders. The U.S. SailGP Team battled hard before crossing the line in 11th.
The final fleet race of the day and the season did not lack for drama either. Emirates GBR, Mubadala Brazil and Red Bull Italy were all hit with on-course side penalties for crossing the start line too early. The U.S. SailGP Team made a fine start, though, and were hot on the heels of M1 leaders ROCKWOOL Denmark.
Nicolai Sehested and the Danes finished in 2nd to claim the event win - their first ever - even though it was France and Quentin Delapierre who won the final race of the season.
Los Gallos pipped the U.S. SailGP Team to 3rd but it was not enough to make the Grand Final and defend last season’s Championship win. For the U.S. SailGP Team, a 4th-place finish secured a 5th-place event finish – an impressive way to end the campaign.
Having secure their Grand Final place with the fleet race of the season, the BONDS Flying Roos enjoyed the perfect start out the start box and lead at M1 with Slingsby on top form in the driving seat.
A split at Gate 2 saw Emirates GBR back in 3rd place with New Zealand moving up from 3rd to 1st.
But the lead changed hands once more with a perfectly-executed maneuver from Fletcher. From there, the Brits never looked back and built a more than 200m lead to cross the line in style and become the third winners of SailGP.
