Andrew Campbell says he is excited by the potential to go out and build on the Emirates Great Britain Sail Grand Prix after re-joining the U.S. SailGP Team.
After going 9-7-10-8 on Saturday, a hydraulic ram malfunction denied the U.S. SailGP Team the opportunity to compete in Races 5 and 6 on Sunday, before returning in Race 7 to close out the weekend in Portsmouth.
But Andrew, who was on the team during Seasons Two and Three of SailGP, came away energized by a number of small improvements he noted throughout the weekend.
“Everybody's optimistic because we can see what we can get rather than coming away from the weekend wondering what went wrong,” he said. “I can see the potential areas for gains. That leads to optimism across the group, rather than being disappointed.
“There's still big opportunities that we need to go and figure out how we're going to do it better.”
“We are going to make slight adjustments. How can we empower each other to be more comfortable? Taylor’s one of the best sailors in the world.”
Andrew felt the team put practice into action on Saturday and were rewarded by finding themselves in good positions round mark one, something he is keen to use as a building block for future success.

He said: “For better or worse, sometimes the team starts really well and round mark one you’re in second or third. Then you come off and you’re fifth at the bottom gate and, all of a sudden, you're eighth. Then you're fighting for 10th and thinking, ‘What happened?’
“But if we gain one or two points more here or there, then we're talking about being on the podium. If we're holding our positions, we're talking about mid fleet and in the points. Right now, we're a team that just needs to go and be in the points and there's potential for that here. This team's definitely good enough to be doing that.
Andrew added: “It's a dynamic sport, and that's why we really, really love it. It's so complicated and when it goes well, it looks easy and it never is. When it's going badly, it looks like the solution is easy and it never is.
“That's why this game is as popular as it is with the Titans of industry, with this growing fan base; people who are just super curious about how technical the sport is. The more that I can talk about it with anybody, it's so rewarding because it’s a heck of a sport.”
