Back for their second SailGP campaign, Germany SailGP Team presented by Deutsche Bank made significant strides over the course of the season
Statistically one of the best teams in the back half of the season, Erik Kosegarten-Heil’s crew finished with a first event win to their name and hopes will be high heading into the new season.
Joined SailGP: Season 5
Crew:
Erik Kosegarten-Heil (Driver), Anna Barth (Strategist), Kevin Peponnet (Wing Trimmer), James Wierzbowski (Flight Controller), Jonathan Knottnerus-Meyer (Grinder), Felix van den Hövel (Grinder), Will Tiller (Grinder).
Story of 2025:
Germany made a splash in Dubai, picking up a win in just the second race of the season to finish P9 in the Middle East.
In Sydney, however, they were handed two 12-point penalties for incidents during practice racing and deducted a further eight points for causing damage to their F50 while in transit.
A P7 in Los Angeles proved the perfect tonic before a coming-of-age performance at their home event – the first Germany Sail Grand Prix. Winners of Race 1 in Sassnitz, the hometown favorites narrowly missed out on the final by finishing P5.
The Rolex Switzerland Sail Grand Prix proved to be a memorable event for Germany
That maiden win was not far away, though. Fourth in Saint-Tropez, Geneva was to prove their breakthrough moment, going 9-7-5-1-3 before winning the event Final.
Third in Cádiz, only two teams collected more Championship points than the Germans’ 35 in the back half of the season.
Off-Season Business:
Germany moved quickly to fill their vacant wing trimmer seat after seeing Stu Bithell join Emirates GBR.
France’s Kevin Peponnet was the man recruited to fill that vacancy on the F50.
In doing so, Germany added an Olympian who represented Les Bleus at the 2020 Games in Tokyo to their roster. Peponnet later took the difficult decision not to campaign for the 2024 Games in Paris to focus on his SailGP career.
From rich sailing stock, Peponnet’s father and uncle both won medals in sailing.
