Recap the Rolex Switzerland Sail Grand Prix with all the details you might have missed…
Published 09/24/2025
The first Rolex Switzerland Sail Grand Prix brought plenty of thrills and spills on Lake Geneva as the European double-header came to a dramatic close.
Here’s everything you might have missed from the weekend as Germany SailGP Team, presented by Deutsche Bank, took home the win!
Germany clinches first event win
Now in their second season, Germany has been posting some impressive results lately, capping them off in style in Switzerland.
Erik Heil’s crew came within a whisker of reaching the Final at their home event in Sassnitz last month and carried that form with them to Geneva. They went 9-7-5 on Saturday but 1st and 3rd-place finishes on Sunday earned them a Final berth.

Once there, they hit Mark 1 in front and never looked back, claiming their first event win and, in doing so, becoming the seventh different winners in an increasingly open Season 5!
U.S. SailGP Team makes light work of light wind
The Buckley Pref-Brief: Geneva
Speaking in The Buckley Pre-Brief, CEO, Co-Owner and strategist Mike Buckley felt the team was well prepared for light wind, owing to driver Taylor Canfield’s experience in non-foiling catamarans.
Three P4s gave the U.S. SailGP Team its best points tally (21) since collecting 26 points during the fleet races in Los Angeles back in March, and their third-highest overall total this season.
Something to build on in Cádiz next weekend at the DP World Spain Sail Grand Prix.
Is it now a four-horse race to the Grand Final?
The Rolex SailGP Championship leaderboard comes sharply into focus with just two events left this season before the Grand Final in Abu Dhabi at the end of November.
A top three will contest a winner-takes-all Grand Final for the right to be crowned Season 5 Champions and, as things stand, there look to be four teams in the hunt.
The BONDS Flying Roos, Emirates GBR and New Zealand have frequently traded places, with Tom Slingsby’s crew reclaiming top spot in Geneva. But the final placings do not matter – making it to the show is all that counts.
That’s precisely what reigning Champions Los Gallos - the only winners not called Australia in SailGP history - are aiming for. Three points back from Peter Burling’s Black Foils, Diego Botín and co. went 7-8-6-8 in Switzerland before winning Race 5, which could be crucial.
Fifth-placed France are 17 points shy of the top three. Have Quentin Delapierre’s team bid ‘adieu’ to their chances?
Switzerland impresses in front of home crowd
The Swiss finished 10th in Season 4 but have made rapid progress this year and continued their upward trajectory in front of a sold-out crowd in Geneva.
We’ve seen teams shine in front of partisan crowds this season and Sébastien Schneiter’s crew were no different, going 5-2-8-7-2 to qualify for Super Sunday’s Final.
The Switzerland SailGP Team came home in third in the Final of the Rolex Switzerland Sail Grand Prix
Their second final in a matter of weeks after qualifying in Portsmouth, the Swiss came home 3rd overall to add eight points to their seasonal total and are nestled nicely in 7th, looking to overtake NorthStar Canada before the season is out.
Speaking afterwards, Geneva-born Schneiter said: “It was good to be doing another final, and doing it at home is extra special. It shows the good character of the team, being able to deliver under pressure. Those are good signs for the future.”
Chapeau!
New foils debut in Geneva
SailGP continues to innovate and push the boundaries of technology, rolling out a brand-new foil setup for the Switzerland Grand Prix.
Teams needed to hit 28 km/hr to get foiling - which in itself proved challenging in light air conditions - a whole 5 km/hr less than before. The new foils also weigh less owing to their hybrid titanium and carbon composite.
It will be interesting to see how they fare in windier conditions!
A bonus 6th item: Lucky No.13 joins SailGP
The SailGP fleet will increase in size next season, it has been announced.
CEO Russell Coutts took the opportunity of the Swiss Grand Prix to reveal the identity of the league's newest team: Artemis Racing, representing Sweden.
There's a familiar in former Japan driver Nathan Outteridge - who's also subbed in for several other teams down the years - while Olympic gold medalist Iain Percy will be CEO.
Artemis joins SailGP in 2026 and you can find out more about their arrival by clicking here.
