Published 01/15/2026
The 2026 SailGP season is finally upon us, as the U.S. SailGP Team heads down under for Event 1 of the new campaign.
As always, the conditions will play a significant role in proceedings during the Oracle Perth Sail Grand Prix presented by KPMG – so how is the weather shaping up for this weekend?
Anyone heading to this year’s curtain raiser will certainly want to pack their suncream, with two days of sunshine in store on 17th and 18th January.
Based on the current forecast, temperatures of approximately 27°C (80.6°F) will greet the Crew throughout Saturday’s race window (1pm - 2.30pm AWDT), though there is a 14% chance of rain during the event’s early stages.
That drops to just 2% as the afternoon progresses, though, alongside relatively consistent cloud cover of around 28%.
And there looks set to be a strong breeze in Fremantle, with estimated westerly winds of 20 km/hr and gusts reaching 56 km/hr.
An even brighter afternoon is expected on Sunday, with similar temperatures to Saturday (27°C / 80.6°F) but clear skies and no cloud cover.
There’s also a 0% chance of rain at the time of writing, and somewhat reduced winds coming from a southwesterly direction – predicted at around 17 km/hr with gusts reaching 46 km/hr.
