Day 1 of the inaugural Germany Sail Grand Prix belonged to Tom Slingsby and the BONDS Flying Roos, while Germany SailGP Team presented by Deutsche Bank put on a show for their home fans.
Round 8 of the 2025 SailGP Season took us to the Baltic Seas of Sassnitz in North Germany - a new venue for the sport and a location which from the outset looked poised to provide a week of high-speed action.
Unfortunately, Mubadala Brazil suffered heavy damage in Friday's practice sessions, which took them out of the running for the rest of the weekend. The Brazilians' F50 nosedived under high-speed conditions, causing damage which could not be repaired in time for the rest of the weekend.
Race 1 saw home favourites, Germany SailGP Team presented by Deutsche Bank, take a commanding victory in front of their superstar investor, Sebastian Vettel, who was onsite in Sassnitz.

Germany went on to usurp GBR through the closing gates to take home 10 points and the first race win of the weekend. The U.S. SailGP Team closed out with a podium finish. Onboard speeds of 85km/h set the tone for an afternoon of high speeds.
Spain led off the start line in Race 2 before BONDS Flying Roos set up a surge forward through the pack. Across the line, the finishing order was Emirates GBR in 1st, France in 2nd, and Australia, a fantastic 3rd from an 11th-place starting position.
The penultimate race of the day saw a new speed record set by initial leaders ROCKWOOL Denmark as they flew towards the first mark at an incredible top speed of 103.93 km/h.
Australia surged forward in the upwind phases of the race; just 50m divided the first four boats as the leaders’ paths converged into the finish. Australia capitalized on their mid-race pace to take the victory, Denmark crossed the line second with Spain in third. The U.S. SailGP Team put together another solid finish to take P4.
The day’s action came to a regrettable end when the U.S. SailGP Team collided with Emirates Great Britain. All crew were unharmed and accounted for.
Tom Slingsby’s Australia crew leads the event standings after Saturday and look poised to close the gap to the New Zealand Black Foils in the championship fight if their momentum continues.
