We take a whistle-stop tour around the fleet to catch up with everything that’s happening…

It’s been almost a fortnight since the Emirates Great Britain Sail Grand Prix concluded and already the first Germany Sail Grand Prix in Sassnitz is on the horizon.
Here’s everything you might have missed in SailGP; your essential briefing from around the fleet…
SailGP Technologies opens in Southampton
The Emirates Great Britain Sail Grand Prix helped mark the opening of SailGP Technologies – the $10million center of innovation, design and engineering based in Southampton, UK.
With more than 100 skilled designers, engineers and boat builders on site, the new center of excellence opened its doors ahead of the Great Britain Grand Prix. SailGP Technologies relocated from New Zealand in late 2023 and this new hub is in close proximity to SailGP HQ in London.

Sir Russell Coutts, SailGP CEO and Co-Founder said: “Launching this facility is a major milestone for SailGP, our teams and partners. As we grow, it’s incredibly important to have fully integrated capabilities and expertise. This state-of-the-art facility will enable SailGP to remain at the very forefront of industry technology and innovation.
“Just as importantly, we’re committed to developing the next generation of boat building talent through our apprenticeship scheme, helping to secure the future of the wider industry.”
The center will also act as the home of off-water athlete training and development with a simulator and, in the future, a SailGP Athlete Integration Training Program. This will include technical, safety and medical training.
Taylor and Ryan appear on The Early Podcast
U.S. SailGP Team Co-Owner Ryan McKillen was joined by driver Taylor Canfield on The Early Podcast with Uber’s 25th employee, Max Crowley, to discuss a wide range of topics.
The Early Podcast takes you into the minds of the first employees at some of the world’s most successful startups – before the fame, structure, and billion-dollar valuations.
Ryan and Taylor sat down at the team’s Tech Base in New York to discuss the rise of SailGP, how Ryan became involved in the U.S. SailGP Team after leaving Uber, building a team, the incredible volume of data that underpins our sport and some of the technical and tactical nuances behind race day.

Red Bull Italy placed fifth at the Emirates Sail Grand Prix
Red Bull Italy looking to build on 5th-place finish
The Emirates Great Britain Sail Grand Prix saw some impressive displays on the water from a number of teams – not least Red Bull Italy, whose 5th-place finish was their best yet.
Three top-three finishes in the fleet races weren’t quite enough to qualify for Sunday’s Final. But the weekend’s performances in Portsmouth have given the Italians something to build on. So says driver and double Olympic Champion Ruggero Tita.
“We deserve what we got - we had some good starts, some bad starts, we did some things very well and also made mistakes as well,” he said. “Fifth place is the best so far in our history, so I’m pretty amped for the moment.
“Being a new team it’s a learning process for us - we’re trying to learn as much as we can about the boat and the racing. The most important thing is for us to keep on progressing.”
Uncharted finale now available globally
If you’re looking to get closer to SailGP than ever before, you can now enjoy all three episodes of SailGP’s behind-the-scenes docuseries Uncharted.
The series tells the story of SailGP through the lens of Aussie sailing legend Jimmy Spithill as he goes from the U.S. SailGP Team driver to CEO of a brand-new team in Red Bull Italy.
All three episodes are now globally available on YouTube and feature interviews with U.S. SailGP Team CEO, Co-Owner and strategist Mike Buckley, as well as driver Taylor Canfield and grinder Anna Weis.
