How the U.S. SailGP Team and Spectrum Sailing are opening the water to everyone

Sailing is built on teamwork, trust and communication. But for many autistic people, there haven’t been enough opportunities to experience the sport in an environment designed with them in mind.
Spectrum Sailing is changing that, and the U.S. SailGP Team is proud to partner with them to help open the sport to more people.Â
Founded in 2018, Spectrum Sailing is a national nonprofit that runs free, three-day camps for autistic youth. Its approach meets every sailor where they are, creating an environment where they can learn at their own pace, build confidence and experience what it means to be part of a team on the water.
The impact can happen quickly. Sailors who may not want to touch the boat on day one are steering by day three. Families have seen new confidence and new ways of communicating, and friendships have formed through shared responsibility on the water.Â
Throughout the 2026 season, U.S. SailGP Team athletes are joining Spectrum Sailing camps across the country, spending time with sailors and helping bring greater visibility to its work.
