2025 Auckland Sail Grand Prix Results, Key Moments & Race Highlights

Rewind to the start of 2025 and the first edition of the ITM Auckland Sail Grand Prix
Published 02/4/2026
The only date you’ll need this Valentine’s Day is the second installment of the ITM Auckland Sail Grand Prix.
In 2025, more than 25,000 ticketed spectators turned out at Waitematā Harbour in Auckland, making it the best-attended event in SailGP history.
As was the case 12 months ago, New Zealand is the second stop of the season for the fleet. The Black Foils will be hoping to get the green light to race in front of a home crowd after sustaining damage to the hull of their F50 in an unfortunate collision with Switzerland in Perth.
France missed out on this event in the 2025 Season due to technical issues as 11 teams lined up in the start box of the shortest course on the calendar. There was also a new innovation as SailGP introduced its brand-new high-speed T-Foils after more than two years of extensive testing.
Emirates GBR won Race 1, with rookies Red Bull Italy picking up the first of back-to-back P3s. The BONDS Flying Roos laid down a marker by winning Race 2.
Peter Burling and the Black Foils finished Day 1 in style, though, claiming victory in Race 4 ahead of Australia (2nd) and Switzerland (3rd). But the day belonged to Tom Slingsby and co. who went 5-1-2-2 to top the event leaderboard overnight.
Day 2 was marred by an injury suffered by NorthStar Canada flight controller Billy Gooderham during practice, ruling the Canadians out of action on Super Sunday. Thankfully, Gooderham was not seriously injured.
The Roos started where they left off the previous afternoon, winning Race 5 and finishing 2nd in Race 6. ROCKWOOL Denmark were also on form with a pair of wins to round out the weekend.
But it was Emirates GBR and reigning Champions Los Gallos who joined Australia in the event Final.
Quick out of the blocks, Dylan Fletcher’s team fell off the foils after the first maneuver, handing the Aussies and Spain a big advantage. The Roos took control from there to secure their first event win of the 2025 Season, followed by Los Gallos and Emirates GBR.
Speaking afterwards, Australian CEO and driver Slingsby said: “This win means so much to us – the team set us up so well. We had an amazing last race.
“It felt like we were fighting the British on the first leg, then the Spanish caught us on the final, upwind leg. They had chosen to sort of concede and take a second, but they went for it and went for the win but we managed to just get around them.”
Who will be on cloud nine this time, and who will be left broken hearted?
