5 Things You Missed At The New York Sail Grand Prix
Take a closer look back at the 2026 Mubadala New York Sail Grand Prix
Published 06/2/2026
The fourth edition of the New York Sail Grand Prix will not be forgotten in a hurry after a dramatic weekend on the Hudson.
For the third event in succession, it was Tom Slingsby’s BONDS Flying Roos who emerged victorious on Super Sunday, beating Emirates GBR and NorthStar Canada in a cat-and-mouse Final.
That means it’s now four wins on the season for the Australians who extend their lead atop the 2026 Rolex SailGP Championship. But what did you miss?Â
As Championship leaders, the Roos were the first boat to be craned out of the Tech Base in Red Hook, Brooklyn, on Saturday. However, in gusty conditions on Day 1, Slingsby’s crew took an unintentional plunge which ruled them out of racing.
Back on the water in time for Day 2, the Aussies hit debris in the water during a warm-up lap, casting temporary doubt on their participation in Event 6. In the end, it mattered not. The three-time SailGP Champions are in imperious form and showed it once more.
2. U.S. SailGP Team Fan Zone proves a hit
Thousands of you came by the U.S. SailGP Team Fan Zone located at the Heineken Riverdeck on Pier 17 from Thursday through Sunday, trying your luck at the Batak, reaction ring and grinding challenge.
Every member of the Crew came by with Anna Weis hosting a popular grinding challenge to see who could manage the highest average output. Driver Taylor Canfield talked fans through starting strategy and took questions, while Andrew Campbell re-lived the win in Sydney.
Partners from Ocean Conservancy, C4 and Mantra were in attendance too, while fans could test their sailing skills on state-of-the-art simulators similar to what the athletes use.Â
3. Tommy Hilfiger x U.S. SailGP Team Capsule Collection launched
The U.S. SailGP Team had two exciting new recruits across the weekend with realtor and TV personality Ryan Serhant and New York Liberty star Breanna Stewart becoming temporary members of the Crew.
Both got the opportunity to rip around New York Harbor at speeds of up to 60mph as Sixth Sailors, sampling the extraordinary nature of SailGP at close quarters.
They were far from the only celebrities in attendance over the weekend, with artists SAINt Jhn and K Camp, influencer Azzy Milan and New York Giants star turned U.S. SailGP Team investor Kayvon Thibodeaux among those to enjoy the weekend’s racing.
5. U.S. SailGP Team and Los Gallos 100 up!Â
Saturday’s racing might not have counted toward anything with the Race Committee deciding not to award points in the interest of Championship integrity – but we still saw some big numbers.
