With the 2025 SailGP Season complete, we remember some of the biggest moments
Published 12/17/2025
The 2025 SailGP Season came to a close after the Grand Final in Abu Dhabi last month – but it won’t be forgotten any time soon.
The fifth season of SailGP enjoyed plenty of incredible moments both on and off the water for the fleet. Here are five things you might have missed from the year that was…
1. U.S. SailGP Team Builds Momentum For 2026
The U.S. SailGP Team clinches a P4 at the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Sail Grand Prix
It was a season of progress for a young U.S. SailGP Team in its first campaign together after earlier roster changes. But in the back half of the year, the Crew began to find its place in the fleet.
That culminated with a P5 at the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Sail Grand Prix but the signs had been there as early as Sassnitz, roaring out of the startbox in Race 1 to take an impressive P3 in Germany. A pair of P4s in Geneva were a welcome way to round out that event, too.
Reflecting on the closing stages of the season, driver Taylor Canfield said: “I think the progression in how we've been building and pushing as a team in these last couple events of the season has been awesome. And it’s definitely a noticeable change and noticeable progress that we've seen.”
2. Tommy Hilfiger Capsule Collection launch
The first-ever Germany Sail Grand Prix was a landmark occasion for the hosts – and the U.S. SailGP Team as the Tommy Hilfiger Capsule Collection was launched.
Designed at the intersection of high-performance sport and modern style, the collection is inspired by the intensity of the race and refined for life off-deck: born on the water and built for the city.
“The U.S. SailGP Team is changing the face of sailing,” said Tommy Hilfiger, “Over the past 40 years, we’ve partnered across a wide range of sports, from competitive sailing to golf, tennis, soccer and skiing, but this is another level.
“SailGP is high-stakes and high-speed, reaching new audiences in iconic locations and inspiring a new generation — it’s like Formula 1® on water. I’m proud to be working with Mike Buckley and the U.S. SailGP Team as they lead this charge.”
3. Taylor Canfield’s Light Wind Specialists
U.S. SailGP Team driver Taylor Canfield has proved a specialist in light-air conditions
The season opened up in light-air conditions in Dubai with Canfield and the team placing 3rd overall after reaching the event Final. The P5 in Abu Dhabi provided the perfect bookend to a season, which saw the U.S. SailGP Team flex its muscles in tricky conditions.
Speaking about the team’s strength in light-air conditions, CEO, Co-Owner and strategist Mike Buckley said: “It’s no secret that when it’s lighter it’s more towards traditional sailing. Everybody is on more of an equal platform from all the sailing they’ve done in their lives. Our team has done a lot of that.
“Taylor is probably the best M32 sailor of all time. He’s a multi-time World Champion in that class. When an F50 isn’t foiling, it’s very similar to that. Confidence comes from preparation. When you have a team that’s done a lot of sailing like that, confidence levels are quite high.”
4. Nils Kuesel Joins Us In Sassnitz
You don’t have to look far for famous faces at SailGP events. U.S. SailGP Team board member DJ Khaled and F1 legends Sebastian Vettel and Valtteri Bottas are just some of the names seen at races this season.
In Germany, it was the turn of influencer Nils Kuesel to join us at the Tech Base as a guest of the U.S. SailGP Team, getting to experience the thrill of the F50 and meet the athletes in their element!
5. Exclusive Fan Engagement Opportunities
