REPORT: Australia Clinch Successive Wins As U.S. SailGP Team Takes P7 In Bermuda

BONDS Flying Roos carry continues form from Rio through Bermuda to clinch victory
Published 05/10/2026
For the second event in a row, the BONDS Flying Roos came up trumps as they won the Apex Group Bermuda Sail Grand Prix in dominant fashion.
Tom Slingsby’s crew were never out of the top three on Super Sunday (2-1-3) and shrugged off the challenge of Los Gallos and Germany SailGP Team, presented by Deutsche Bank, to clinch back-to-back wins.
In doing so, the Australians strengthened their grip on 1st place in the 2026 Rolex SailGP Championship – comfortably inside the all-important top three by 14 points.
The U.S. SailGP Team were unable to build on an overnight P3, going 10-10-9 to miss out on a Final berth and finish P7 overall, adding four points to their Championship tally.
The wind was not as strong as it had been on Day 1 but the 24 meter wing, high-speed T-foils and rudders remained, with the large jib up top. Artemis rejoined the action following technical issues, while France borrowed Dave Gillmore following Glenn Ashby’s leg break the previous day.
Los Gallos - Bermuda winners in 2024 - hit the top of the line at speed in Race 5 after winding up late, but had France and Switzerland for company. Diego Botín managed to hold off the Aussie threat to take the win with breathing room, followed home by the Flying Roos and France.
Slingsby and Australia were determined to avoid a repeat in Race 6 and timed their start to perfection, beating ROCKWOOL Racing and Red Bull Italy in the sprint to Mark One.
Looking to build on a strong showing on Saturday, NorthStar Canada were in the chasing pack along with Switzerland and Artemis with all four teams taking the favored right-hand turn at Gate 2.

The U.S. SailGP Team battled back from another tough start to move as high as P7 at one stage but - for the second race in a row - had to settle for a single point in P10. Having looked strong at one stage, Giles Scott and the Canadians made a costly error, slumping back to P12.
Australia crossed in 1st to clinch their third win of the weekend and book their Final spot. Explora Swiss were next home, putting themselves firmly in ‘dark horse’ territory for the Final.
The U.S. SailGP Team went into the final fleet race of the weekend in P4, three points behind the Germany Deutsche Bank, and a point ahead of Switzerland.
It was not to be for the Crew, though, whose Final chances were ended by a textbook start from Erik Kosegarten-Heil and Germany that effectively punched their ticket to the Final.
Joined by Spain and Australia, the Germans never looked back, providing a sneak preview of what was to come in the event Final, finishing 1-2-3 respectively.
Few teams have as much Final experience as the BONDS Flying Roos and it showed again. The Aussies had the inside line as the start line went white and took full advantage by motoring to M1.

By Gate 3, Spain went left as the others went right. But that roll of the dice did not pay off for Los Gallos as Australia cruised home to take the win. It took a perfectly timed dive into the mark boundary by Botín to secure P2 and hold off Germany, who were contesting their first final since Cádiz last season.
It’s been two seasons since Australia were SailGP Champions. In this form, it’s hard to see that streak extending.
