Taylor: “There’s No Better City To Race In Than New York”

U.S. SailGP Team driver Taylor Canfield is relishing the opportunity to race in front of home fans at this weekend’s Mubadala New York Sail Grand Prix (May 30-31).
Taylor was joined by grinder and jib trimmer Anna Weis at Friday’s pre-race press conference ahead of event No.6 of the 2026 Rolex SailGP Championship, with the U.S. SailGP Team sat in P4.
He said: “I can only speak for myself but Anna and I have talked about it a bunch and just sharing the emotions that go through our minds, and our bodies, when we’re at these home events is incredible.
“Friends, family and fans coming to support us and only the weight of a nation on our shoulders this week! We’re excited for the opportunity. We see it as an opportunity and there’s no better city to do it than New York.”
Added Anna: “My whole family is here to support and it feels extra special and I think we can take that feeling into racing and that’s what we’re going to try to do this weekend.”
Family is a theme for the Crew, who have all talked about their tight bond throughout the season. Taylor insists that goes beyond a throwaway phrase.
“It truly is a family,” the nine-time World Champion said. “We’re so proud to have an all-American crew on the boat and represent our country. That’s no small task. At the same time, we travel round the world together and I see Anna more than I see my family, so she is my family.
“We’ve had a great vibe this year and made some huge steps in our performance and we’re in great shape so far this season, looking to continue to grow and keep pushing up the leaderboard.

Anna was in agreement, saying: “We’ve done such a good job as a team – really working hard on that camaraderie and trust within each other.
“I know that when I’m the happiest and the best person I can be, I can show up and be the best athlete I can be so we’ve really been working hard to bring the best out of each other as humans and as people and that has really been able to translate over to our racing.
“Sailing in front of home fans is so special. It’s hard to put into words. We have a Fan Zone at Pier 17, it’s open all weekend and it’s really exciting to connect with fans and really meet them and I feel like that’s really what matters. We’re really excited to take that energy into racing.”
