How does a SailGP Event work?
The entire fleet takes part in seven fleet races across Saturday (4) and Sunday (3). Points are awarded based on position with 10 going to each race winner, all the way to 1 point for 10th. Anyone placed 11th or lower gets zero points.
After seven races, the three teams with the most points contest a winner-takes-all Final.
Event points are then distributed based on the same criteria, with the event winner adding 10 to their seasonal tally, P2 taking 9 points, P3 taking 8 points and so on.
What happened at the Bermuda Sail Grand Prix?
The BONDS Flying Roos continued their fine form by picking up their second straight event win and third on the season.
Tom Slingsby’s crew saw off Los Gallos and Germany SailGP Team presented by Deutsche Bank in the Final to extend their lead at the summit.
For the U.S. SailGP Team, a P7 finish could have been a Final place right until the final fleet race of the week.
After opening up with a blistering win in Race 1, the Crew went -5-7-3 on Day 1 on the Great Sound with more stunning starts. Day 2 proved more difficult, with DS Automobiles France (P9) and Artemis (P11) among the big hitters who failed to find their groove.
Three-time winners the BONDS Flying Roos (45pts) extended their lead at the top of the standings by adding 10 points to their tally. Emirates GBR are just about holding onto P2 (35pts) with Los Gallos moving into P3 (34pts).
Taylor Canfield and the Crew are just behind on 31pts with DS Automobiles France six points back in P5.
