5 Things You Need To Know About The New York Sail Grand Prix

Your one-stop guide to event No.6 of the 2026 Rolex SailGP Championship
Published 05/26/2026
The U.S. SailGP Team returns to its spiritual home this weekend for the Mubadala New York Sail Grand Prix (May 30-31).
SailGP arrives in the city that never sleeps for the sixth event of the 2026 Rolex SailGP Championship with things hotting up throughout the fleet.
Here’s everything you need to know ahead of this weekend’s racing in the Big Apple…
1. Head to the U.S. SailGP Team Fan Zone
In New York this week? Whether you’re a long-time follower of SailGP or a brand-new fan, we’re giving you the chance to get closer than ever to our sport.
Head to Pier 17 for the U.S. SailGP Team Fan Zone. We’ll be there from Thursday, May 28 through Sunday, May 31 from 10am-6pm every day.
Stay tuned for the full schedule of events. There will be plenty going on – including the chance to meet your favorite U.S. SailGP Team athletes!

2. The best vantage point possible
For the first time, fans at the New York Sail Grand Prix will be joining their favorite teams and athletes on the water!
Last year’s huge 8,000 capacity grandstands have been replaced by on-water experiences this year, bringing you closer to the action than ever before – all while enjoying high-speed racing against an iconic backdrop that includes the Statue of Liberty.
Does it get any better than watching 12 F50s whizz around New York Harbor while on the water? Answers on a postcard.
3. Can Aussies make it a hat-trick?
There can be no denying it: the BONDS Flying Roos are the team to beat right now.
Tom Slingsby’s crew racked up their third win of the season last time out at the Apex Group Bermuda Sail Grand Prix, clinching back-to-back wins in the process.
Can the Roos now make it three in a row in NYC? The Aussies have never won in the Big Apple but, on current form, you wouldn’t want to rule out another victory.
4. Los Gallos looking for a repeat
Back in the Final at the last event in Bermuda, Los Gallos have fond memories of the New York Harbor after winning on the Hudson last season.
The 2024 Season Champions saw off stiff competition from France and New Zealand in damp conditions to clinch back-to-back event wins on American waters after triumphing in San Francisco.
Los Gallos, led by Diego Botín celebrate winning the 2025 Mubadala New York Sail Grand Prix
For Diego Botín’s crew, a repeat in front of the Manhattan skyline would be very welcome – they currently sit 3rd in the Rolex SailGP Championship, just three points ahead of the U.S. SailGP Team and only a point behind Emirates GBR in 2nd.
5. No practice racing
The 12 teams will arrive in New York this week but all preparatory work will be undertaken on dry land, either in meetings, in the gym or on the simulators at the Tech Base.
What will that mean when the klaxon goes at 3.30pm ET on Saturday? It’s hard to say for certain but it’s definitely going to take a few races for teams to get into the swing of things.
Fear not, though, the teams will get their usual warm-up slot prior to the race window opening in which to practice starts, maneuvers and more!
