Everything you need to know ahead of the weekend in one place
Published 08/20/2026
The second-ever Germany Sail Grand Prix brings the fleet back to Sassnitz – venue of last season’s SailGP speed record.
ROCKWOOL Racing hit 103.93kph (64.5mph) last season while hosts Germany SailGP Team presented by Deutsche Bank put on a show in front of their fans, winning the opening race of the event.
Here’s everything you need to know for 2026…

What will the weather be like for the Germany Sail Grand Prix?

Temperatures of around 66f are expected to be consistent throughout, while winds could reach in excess of 30mph on Day 2.

Who will be racing at the Germany Sail Grand Prix?
All 13 boats are once again back on the start line ahead of the weekend which should make for some exciting racing off of Insel Rügen in Northern Germany.
Split fleet racing is again in place with Groups A and B splitting the 13-strong fleet based on recent performance.
Group A: Los Gallos, Explora Journeys Swiss, Black Foils, DS Automobiles Team France, Red Bull Italy, ROCKWOOL Racing, Mubadala Brazil.
Group B: Artemis SailGP Team, BONDS Flying Roos, U.S. SailGP Team, Germany SailGP Team presented by Deutsche Bank, NorthStar, Emirates GBR.
How does a SailGP Event work?
The split fleet takes part in five fleet races across Saturday (3) and Sunday (2). Points are awarded based on position with five points going to each race winner, all the way to 1 point for 5th. Anyone placed 6th or lower gets zero points.
After 10 races across the two fleets, the four teams with the most points contest a winner-takes-all Final.
Event points are then distributed based on the same criteria, with the event winner adding 10 to their seasonal tally, P2 taking 9 points, P3 taking 8 points and so on.
What happened at the Portsmouth Sail Grand Prix?
Los Gallos secured back-to-back wins in Portsmouth, walking away with the trophy and 10 points that moved them into sole possession of second place in the Championship.
Artemis finished runner-up - their third podium of the season - while the U.S. SailGP Team, who finished fifth, picked up five points after a fine first day.
The story of the weekend, though, was the home team's struggles. Dylan Fletcher and Emirates GBR had an inauspicious home event, finishing 11th and out of the points entirely, which cost them a spot in the top four.
The BONDS Flying Roos (66pts) remain top of the 2026 Rolex SailGP Championship but after back-to-back events without winning, their lead over Los Gallos (54pts) is down to 12 points.
Artemis (47pts) has moved into P3, just a point and a place ahead of the U.S. SailGP Team (46 pts), while Emirates GBR finds itself down in P5 on 44 pts.
