Mike Buckley is the Co-Owner, Team Principal and CEO for the United States SailGP Team. A two-time World Champion sailor, Mike acquired the team in November 2023 alongside Ryan McKillen, founding engineer at Uber, with a vision to transform American sailing. As both a leader on the water and in the boardroom, Mike brings a rare combination of elite competitive experience and entrepreneurial ambition. Under his leadership, the team has assembled the most diverse and forward-thinking investor group in the sport — including Issa Rae, DeAndre Hopkins, Gary Vaynerchuk, and Avenue Capital Group’s Marc Lasry — and is redefining what it means to be a modern sports franchise. Mike’s goal is to build the U.S. SailGP Team into the “New York Rangers of global professional sailing”: culturally relevant, commercially successful, and a catalyst for broader access to the sport.
