Peter Kinney returns to the U.S. SailGP Team for the 2026 Season having been involved in SailGP for 25 events since 2020. Growing up on the coast of Southern California, Peter has always been close to the ocean and began sailing Naples Sabots at the Newport Harbor Yacht Club at 8 years old. He spent some time away from the water as he played football in high school and collegiately at the University of Redlands but came back to his sailing roots when he represented the United States at the 2013 Red Bull Youth America’s Cup. Peter is a veteran of the offshore racing scene in Southern California, setting the Pacific Cup and San Diego to Puerto Vallarta race records set onboard the Rio100, and racing the MOD70 ‘Orion’ and ORMA60 ‘Mighty Merloe’ for a number of years. He won a Melges 32 world championship title in 2016, and regularly races on the GL52 and M32 circuits. Peter spends his time outside of racing as a marine electronics technician, avid waterman, and a huge Los Angeles Lakers and Dodgers fan.
